Extraordinary Nowy Kościół Thunderegg - Coral Reef (Fine Agate Bands in Quartz)

Yes - so it is late on christmas eve night - so late that it is Christmas morning and I am still on the computer writing about yet another Nowy Kosciol thunderegg! But this one does have a very interesting structure. In fact quite unique in my experience! As far as I can tell, after the basic Nowy Kosciol orange agate bands were laid down around the edge, this one started producing quartz crystals, which is pretty normal. But after a basic geode had built up, something happened to lay down an ultra-thin layer of agate over the crystals. So thin it is barely there at all. Banding of agate and crystal is nothing unusual either but this one has repeated that precise sequence of quartz and extremely brief agate formation 4 times with almost clockwork precision (but slightly different colours) - ending with that fuzzy red agate in the centre.

I am tired out and just downed a glass of champaign, so I am letting my mind run away with things I know - but this stone seems to highlight the narrative nature of agate. Every stone is a story of something - you can read their lives like tree rings, even though I have absolutely no idea what changes to the environment generate the structures that result . . .
