Small Owyhee River Blue Opal Thunderegg

This thunderegg is also described as Owyhee blue opal, though the whole stone is very different to the previous - being extremely clear. As clear as agate in fact. It is an egg that took me by surprise when I first saw it in the flesh. On the face of it, it could be thought fairly dull - blue agate/opal within an olive matrix - but look closer. That strangely clear opal holds the record in this collection for clarity of the interior with an unparalleled view down into the rock 'bed'. Also notable is a feature that is only just apparent in this photo. In the big upper right hand 'fjord', a strange and shimmering webbing is visible. It took me a moment to work out that this was one of the thunderegg's cracks, visible through the clear opal right down into the depths as a strange shimmering sheet. Light catches on this and refracts into rainbows.
