Yakutia Thundereggs

Yakutia – one of the most magnificent thunderegg locations in the world and one of the most rarely seen, thanks to their value, size and the fact that they are located in one of the world’s more awkward countries.  These stones can be vast – regularly in the 11 inch range – and are extraordinarily finely formed for such a large size, with wonderfully neat shapes – biconoid or triconoid.  The agate is rich and wine-dark, often with bands and sometimes with crystal, but it is the matrix that really makes these stones something really special.  The gorgeous mottling of greeny-grey with yellow and black makes one of the finest matrices to be found anywhere in the world.  I am very pleased to be able to include this location in the gallery and maybe help make it more widely known.
