This was the stone that really threw me with it's colour-changing abilities. It seems that these paler forms are much drier than the dark chocolate opal - and essentially when wetted, some of them can revert to chocolate, which is incredibly strange to see. Then it slowly fades back to yellow in a matter of hours. Touch it with your finger and you can feel it sucking at your skin very slightly. It also nearly sucked itself onto my metal grinding disk when I forgot to wet it before putting it there! I couldn’t get it off!
So it’s very hungry for water but cannot hold it. I was delighted just how fiery this one turned out, in spite of its curious properties - it is very sparkly.
