Friend Ranch Thundereggs There is something special about the Friend Ranch eggs, and they are strikingly different from their not-far-off neighbors at Richardson Ranch. Their agate is often simple and dark - often diluted dark and highly transparent, showing up the interior of the stone like a pond. Sometimes they contains swirls like perfect looking stormclouds or strange intrusions of black that is characteristic of this bed. For all their sometime simplicity - or because of it - there is a magical beauty here and they remain one of my favorite locations. With these stones, the name Thunderegg takes on new organic meaning and it is easy to imagine these hatching with a bang and a small black flash shooting skywards . . . They take and also demand a really good polish - and they are also incredibly hard to image properly, because that amazingly smooth agate shows up the dust worse than any other i have seen!
