Large crystalline Fred's bed egg

This is a nice and substantial Fred's Bed egg and it has the familiar soft brown fleshy matrix that this bed is known for. The core is predominantly crystalline and the whole egg possesses that haunting subtlety that 'grows on you' as you get to know it and look into the details - something that seems a characteristic of the Fred's Bed eggs. When i look at this, the fleshy appearance always makes me think of some bizarre internal organ, though in that case, i have to say that it does not look healthy, being filled with a strange growth . . .
Oh dear! A thunderegg like a sick kidney? Not a term to be used if i ever wanted to sell it, perhaps! But actually, I have compared thundereggs to all sorts of strange things on my site – Friend Ranch polluted ponds with planarian worms - here.. Fred’s Bed eggs looking like bizarre 'cysts' in flesh or diseased organs – such as my lovely and painful Broken Heart specimen - here. Fallen Tree eggs like bones teaming with feeding growths - here . . . Those aren’t derogatory comparisons by any means but just another part of the wonder of these things and the worlds they contain - and it is a strange phenomenon that suddenly these images that might be negative are actually breathtakingly beautiful when they are a thunderegg. So these eggs prove that our notions of what is beautiful and what isn't can be rather subjective, it seems - that beauty that can be found in the most unexpected places if we look in the right way. And maybe these thundereggs prove in some obscure way that even a murky polluted pond or a growth of something in a bone can be a marvel.
It measures 3 5/8" x 3 5/8" x 1 1/2" and weighs 1 pound 1 oz.
This thunderegg is for sale. £10 Please contact David Rix for buying.
