Large and wonderfully shaped Cherokee John Egg

The shape of the split rock in this egg is exceptional. Also striking is a detail that is not visible in this image, but can be seen in the detail below - that the matrix is marked with the finest imaginable concentric lines - almost like wood! This also contains a large central button - where the split in the rock has skirted the centre. The resulting cavity later filled with agate, quartz and manganese. All in all, this is one of the most exemplary 'splits' i have ever seen!

4 1/4" by 4 1/4" by 2 1/8" and weighs 1 lb. 9 ounces
