Classic almost pure red specimin
This simple, small specimin has the 'classic St Egidien look'. Flaming orange red and seemingly almost opaque agate surrounded by a pale matrix and very few features beyond that. Or so it seems! This is where the zoom of the camera really comes into it's because what is revealed when you look closely (at the detail shots) just about beggars belief. The familiar St Egidien speckling is there - but taken to the absolute extreme. The red agate is clear after all, but filled with such a soup of minute specks that it looks solid. The result is one of the most amazing close-up shots in my entire gallery. The tiny white growths in the centre of this specimin are a nice touch as well.
